Human Water Machine - Video Still, 2014
As part of The 'Tuning Out' Performance event in Docklands public spaces - with Siying Zhou, Jonathan Homsey, Tarik Frimpong and Nico Reddaway.
Through simultaneously playing out the banal, everyday actions of drinking and urinating - we see the human body as a natural machine, whose existence relies on an endless physical cycle of consumption, ultimately leading to a kind of waste or excess. The plastic Mount Franklin bottle from which the artist drinks, links mass production and human consumption. She literally ’takes the piss’, a sardonic gesture which makes a direct connection between everyday action and impact – via the artists’ body.
